The hook and familiarity

Small kid s like to learn new things and words. Today my 3.5 year old son learned the new word "hook". He showed me a part of his lego piece (or its compatible) and asked me "Papa, what is this?"

"It's a 'hook'." He looked at me again, expecting further explanation.

"Remember Captain Hook? Just looks like the one in his hand."

And then the aha moment.

It was much easier for him to grasp the concept of hook, because the was quite familiar with related term in the Disney Junior series.

He began to associate things with something familiar in his life... connecting the dots....
